The front entrance Routemaster was introduced in 1962 with London Transport's RMF1254 (254CLT). However, rather than use on service in London after demonstrating to operators around the country, it was used by BEA on the shuttle between the West London Air Terminal and Heathrow.

The front entrance version as ordered by Northern General, 2091 (RCN691), one of this batch of fifty, is working route 57 to Sunderland and displays adverts for Nimmo's Beer and Shop at Binns.

A vehicle that also joined the Northern General fleet was the prototype RMF demonstrator, 2145 (254CLT). This vehicle differed from the other Northern Routemasterss and had been used by London Transport on its BEA contract. Working route 25 to Newcastle this special model advertises the 2007 SHOWBUS.

Northern General AEC Routemaster Centenary model
32105 Northern General AEC Routemaster Park Royal
2105 (EUP405B) on route 55 to Newcastle Worswick Street commemorating the centenary of Northern General. The model has a centenary logo in rear most nearside window and carries the name Chris Moyes OBE DL on the off side front. It is a re-working of 32102.
