Translink Goldline Scania K410UB Caetano Invictus 2031
Thanks to Paul McSherry in Lurgan we have a picture of one of the twelve new Scania K410UB doubledeck coaches entering service with Translink Goldline in Northern Ireland. With strong overtones of the Caetano Levante singledeck coaches used extensively by National Express the bodies are the Portuguese builders new Invictus model. This is 2031 (IXZ1831) a 76 seater, 59 seats are on the top deck, like others it is replacing the ten year old MAN powered Ayats Bravo I doubledeckers. The Invictus body is 4.05m, 5cm taller than Alexander Dennis' new Enviro500 buses now entering service in Canada. The large sign behind warns that the bridge in the background is only 3.7m high and clearly not suitable for doubledeckers. This week a Gold Bus coach from Ballarat collided spectacularly with 3m bridge whilst visiting Melbourne, fortunately there were no serious injuries. Despite clear signposting it is not the only coach claimed by the bridge, amazingly a small lorry fell victim to it the following day! Australians are not good at following road signs with the state government in Melbourne spending millions of pounds to remove level crossings across the ciy as there are regular fatalities despite the barriers, flashing lights, ringing bells and train horns.
