SHOWBUS international 2019

SHOWBUS international is at the
Hertfordshire County Showground for 2019

It's not long now till SHOWBUS at our exciting new venue at the Herts Showground by Junction 9 of the M1 on Sunday September 29th 2019.

The new venue is only 15 minutes from Whipsnade Zoo, which nestles in the beautiful Dunstable Downs. Every 20 minutes, thanks primarlily to Uno and Tower Transit, a bus will shuttle between Showbus and the Zoo and there will be 50% off for SHOWBUS visitors on production of their SHOWBUS ticket. In the morning an invited selection of older buses will be on display in the Zoo coach park. In the afternoon Mullany's Coaches are offering a free tour of Dunstable Downs at 2.30pm (reserve a seat at Showbus Control). There will also be hourly tours to Harpendedn Village.

The new venue sees a return of some of the regulars who used to attend SHOWBUS at Duxford, and for vistors, as opposed to exhbitors, the entry cost is significantly less.

Beside the Zoo shuttle Red Rose, Arriva and Carousel will be supporting us with special bus services from both St Albans Stations, Luton, Dunstable, High Wycombe, Amersham, Chesham and Hemel Hempstead to SHOWBUS, including links from Luton Airport via the Busway. There is also the opportunity to travel to the Verulanium Roman Museum.

The new site is well drained grass criss-crossed by lots of roadways, so much so that if there was a problem most buses could park with two wheels on hard standing, so another Woburn Abbey type problem is extremely unlikely. We are also hiring a large marquee so many stalls will be housed inside.

Visions International will be supporting the London Bus Display at SHOWBUS, which will be in a separate enclosure. With Visions support we hope to bring you the latest buses from the Capital, including an Optare electric doubledecker! But expect too London buses from years gone by, including the odd classic Routemaster. In particular we will be celebrating 80 years of the RT and 40 years since the RT and RF finished London service.

Amongst the features planned for the Hertfordshire display is the Hertfordshire Hub, where we hope to have at least one bus from each Hertfordshire bus operator on display. We will have other special displays celebrating fifty years since the formation of the National Bus Company and the advent of poppy red and apple green. The PTEs are also celebrating 50 years since inception. A special feature on NBC is included in the programme on sale for £5 on the day together with articles on Transit Systems, environmentally friendly buses and the Alexander Dennis Enviro. Showbus is an event that has, and always will be, run for enthusiasts by enthusiasts. We aim to stage an event that is unrivalled and hope that the new venue will offer our visitors value for money as well as a new range of displays and attractions.

We always like to hear from visitors to Showbus, and entrants too, and we would welcome suggestions as to what attractions you would like to see at the 2019 event. Contact us via the Contacts page
