Metro Tasmania Bustech XDi
In 2018, after years of loyalty to Scania based buses, and a little less period of time to Custom built bodies, the Tasmanian government favoured Bustech with its future deliveries after the manufacturer partnered with Tassie engineering firm Elphinstone to build buses in Burnie. Hopefully there are safeguards in the contract or they could end up like Volgren, investing in a plant in NSW to supply bodies on the Metrobus fleet of Volvo artics and then orders dried up and the plant had to be closed down. Certainly Metro needed lots of new buses to replace the remaining ageing high floor examples still around. This pair of XDi models, seen with one of the out of favour Custom Evo II bodied Scanias are sheltering from a sudden downpour at the Moonah depot.

Two more XDi buses, 804 (MET804) and 815 (MET815) are sheltering at Hobart's depot with an early Ansair bodied Scanias, with rego FL6702, belonging to the island police. It is assumed the Scania was new to Metro.

Metro Tasmania Bustech XDi 800
Bustech XDi 800 (MET800) is unique, in that it was assembled by Elphinstone, but at Bustech's Queensland plant in 2017. All subsequent Bustechs for Metro were built in Burnie. The bus is seen heading along Main Road into Hobart from Moonah in February 2019.
