Handy Cross roundabout at High Wycombe is the junction of the A404 with the M40. The A404 is a dual carriageway link between the M40 and M4. During 2006 major roadworks caused considerable congestion as work was done to improve the junction layout to avoid its frequent gridlocks. The work was disruptive and there was little improvement in the roundabout's effectiveness until box junctions were painted on it, a cheaper solution that might have resolved the problem in the first place. The roundabout would grid lock as frustrated motorists at last reaching the roundabout in long queues succeeded in blocking traffic trying to exit the roundabout! This Skyliner is seen on the roundabout on driver training. Tube training includes driver familiarisation with alternative routes aprincipally avoiding the M40 and Handy Cross when there are problems with traffic saturation. Sighting of an Oxford Tube anywhere other then on the M40 is a sure sign of problems at Handy Cross.
