Motts Yellow Bus Metrobus
The original mainstay of the Motts Yellow Bus doubledeck fleet, acquired primarily for service school runs from Stokenchurch and Princes Risborough to High Wycombe, were ex South Yorkshire PTE Rolls Royce Eagle powered Metrobuses. Fleet number 1 was JHE141W, formerly SYPTE 1841. The deckers were required also for contract services into Oxford on the 280 at evenings and weekends. The service which had required huge subsidy when operated by City of Oxford, suddenly became commercial for most of the journeys at the point at which Oxford lost the contract. Metrobus JHE141W is seen leaving Oxford Cornmarket on the last journey of the day, and the last day of Yellow Bus operation. The entire 280 Oxford-Aylesbury service passed to Arriva after that, when Arriva acquired the Motts operation.

In contrast we see ex South Yorkshire MCW Metrobus 1843 (JHE143W) on the first day of Yellow Bus services on the special Sunday morning one off X80 run into Oxford, which by passes Stone. The Bucks County requirements wanted services to start from the Oxford end of a Sunday morning. Motts registered the outbound journey to take up the required service and were unsurprised it attracted customers. After all Oxford on a Sunday is a bigger draw than Aylesbury. The Motts early run continued into Arriva days albeit as a standard 280 rather than the express X80. Note the temporary blinds for day one. The bus is on the forecourt of the Motts Stoke Mandeville depot.

The bus is seen a little later at Thame on route to Oxford, with first passengers already on board.
