The ethanol powered Scanias were not a financial success, whilst they had green crentials they came at a cost. The fleet was replaced on the 17 with hybrid electric Alexander Dennis Enviro400H purple doubledeckers. The Scanias were re-engined with diesel as their fuel and reassigned to other routes. Seen when only a few months old is Enviro400H 226 (SN61BCX) in May 2012.

Earlier that day, 231 (SN61BOO) was seen out near the Tilehurst terminus from the top deck of a First Beeline Dennis Trident travelling into Reading from Bracknell, the service which has since passed to Reading Buses with the closure of First's Bracknell depot later that year.
