This very standard looking ECW bodied Leyland Olympian, actually boasts coach seating and
was used on the London routes by Southend. It is seen here at the 1999 North Weald Rally
freshly painted in Arriva livery.

Same place, one year later and another coach bodied Olympian - only this time the bus is a recent
acquisition from Southern Vectis on the Isle of Wight.

The first new doubledeckers to join the Southen fleet for some time are these ALX400 Alexander bodied
Dennis Tridents. The buses are in contrast to the low floor deckers in use in London - DAF DB250s.
The batch, route branded for Southend services 7 and 8, is shared with The Shires, hence the Luton
registration - W434XKX. The bus is seen at the Alresford Bus Rally in July 2000.

Speeding along the Embankment is this Green Line liveried Paramount bodied coach on the London
commuter run now shared between First Essex and Arriva. A Van Hool bodied DAF of the North Kent
Express fleet loads at the kerb side.

Seen it EFE SHOWBUS International 2001 is former Southend coach Leyland Tiger 249 (A249SVW)
with Duble Caribbean coachwork. The vehicle has not strayed to far, as the livery shows it is with
Stephensons of Rochford, a keen operator of former local buses and coaches.
