Route 17 pioneered Reading's route branding with purple liveried Scania N94UD models with East Lancs bodies moulded on to the standard Scania front as seen on 814 (YN54AFO) at Reading Cemetry in July 2007.

Sister vehicle 806 (YN54AEX) is seen heading for Tilehurst at the Cemetry Junction a year later.

Omnidekka 805 (YN54AEW) is seen at the same location in 2007.

The route branding is extended around the rear of the bus as seen in this 2007 view of 810 (YN54AFE) about to pass the site of the old Thames Valley Traction offices.

In 2008 the pioneering purple liveried East Lancs bodied N94UD models were displaced by a fleet of impressive new all-Scania Omnidekkas powered by ethanol. The introduction of these "green" purple buses also heralded an upgrade to the service with 24 hour operation. Initially the service was shared between the old and new fleet as this July view shows with N94UD 806 (YN54AEX) heading to Tilehurst and Omnidekka CN270UD 1114 (YN08MMU) heading to town.
