Thames Travel Vario
Following Stagecoach Oxford's reprimand from the Traffic Commissioners concerning its operation of the X39 from Oxford to Heathrow via Henley, new operator Thames Travel took on the service, at least as far as Henley. The Mercedes Vario/Plaxton Beaver 2 was given prominent route branding as the picture below shows more clearly. It is seen here departing Oxford on December 29th, 1999.

Thames Travel built up a large area of network services based on routes abandoned by the Oxford companies, the former House network and Chiltern Queens. Amongst the first major routes operated was the Oxford-Henley, a remnant of the former South Midland service to Oxford via Maidenhead and Slough. Mercedes R846JGD is a Vario with Plaxton Beaver 2 bodywork seen in Henley town centre.
