Giants of the SmartBus fleet is this pair of National Bus Scania K310UAs with Custom CB60 Evo II bodies. Originally numbered 1000 and 1001 they had their fleet numbers raised to 2000 and 2001. This is 2000 (8033AO) at the Knoxfield depot in February 2012. Normally based at Doncaster it was at Knoxfield for mechanical attention.

On the same day 2001 (8034AO) was at home in Doncaster, but being the weekend was resting, its extra 15 seats and enhanced standing capacity not required beyond weekday rush hours.

A nearside view of 2001. When delivered these were the only articulated buses in the Ventura group, but the subsequent takeover of the Grenda group meant they were no longer alone, Grenda having a number primarily for school work.

East West Volvo Volgren Smartbus 8002
Now an interloper on the SmartBus network is the small East-West company, jointly owned by Reservoir Bus and Dysons. They have some car workings on the primarily Grenda route 901. Here their 8002 (7720AO), a Volgren bodied Volvo B7RLE new in 2010, is about to pass the new Dandenong depot of Grenda in February 2012. The 901 is one of the few bus services to serve Melbourne's main airport and certainly the only regular service as it spans north Melbourne to link across to Frankston in the east.

In the following pages there are several Grenda group vehicles in SmartBus livery. However they have all been rebranded - as Volvo B7RLE with locally built Volgren body, 8662 (8019AO), shows - with prominent Ventura fleetnames. The bus is seen at Frankston in October 2012.
