Leading the way in modern bus operation, Northampton
Transport put into service a fleet of gas powered vehicles: Northampton 501 (P501MVV) is a
low floor Volvo B10L with Alexander Ultra body. The fuel is stored within the roof space, 501 had
made its way to Showbus 97 under its own power, shortly after entering service in Northampton.
The service was launched by Transport Minister, Glenda Jackson.

This little picture gives some idea of 'standard' Northampton in the late 1990s. There was a sizeable fleet
of Volvo Citybus D10M underfloor engined doubledeckers, with Alexander bodywork, gathered over recent years
and a batch of B10M Duple 300 bus bodied singledeckers - plus the B10L/Alexander gas fleet. These
and non-standard types are featured in these pages.
