The once proud municipal operation of Northampton with its highly standardised fleet of rear entrance Roe bodied Daimler CVG6 doubledeckers is no more. A special feature of the operation late evenings was simultaneous departures from Greyfriars Bus Station on all the town services to the blast of the inspector's whistle to ensure there was no early running! The company was an early member of the Grampian fold, morphing into First Northampton. Deregulation meant competition from area operator United Counties, itself taken over by rival group Stagecoach. Eventually First gave up and left the town operations to them.
Northampton Transport Daimler CVG6 Roe 246
Seen at the 2002 SHOWBUS is Northampton's 246 (BNH246C) a classic Roe bodied Daimler CVG6, the type which was the mainstay of the fleet for so many years.

Two more preserved Northampton deckers were on display at the Peterborough Bus Rally in 2011. Side by side are Duple utility bodied Daimler CWD6 129 (VV8934) and Roe Bodied CVG6 267 (JVV267G).

Daimler 267 is seen again at SHOWBUS 2011 with Lowestoft's Massey bodied Leyland Titan PD2A, 2 (PBJ2F). The bus was the last rear entrance front engined doubledecker supplied to Northampton Transport and the last supplied by Daimler to the home market.

Northampton Transport Daimler CVG6 Northern Coachbuilders 154
This Northern Coachbuilders Daimler CVG6 is seen as part of the FirstGroup heritage display at SHOWBUS 1998. At one time the Northampton fleet was exclusively Daimler CVG6 and all but these first vehicles had Roe bodywork. Indeed the fleet boasted the last CVG6 built, and it and others have been regular visitors to Showbus over the years.
